Berlin with kids: Michelberger Hotel
Planning a trip to Berlin with kids? Great idea. That Berlin is a cool city, is not exactly breaking news. We spent a week cruising the German capital and brought home a long list of places to be and hotspots. Of course we will share those (ja natürlich!) in the near future, but first we tell you about the ultimate place to stay in Berlin with kids: the Michelberger Hotel.
Forget all your prejudices about mouldy family hotels, because this hotel proves it can be done: cater to the needs of families and not be boring. Like, at all. What started out as a dream – a large house as an operating base for friends, a place to work together and share ideas – became something even better: a hotel. Better indeed, because this way we get to be part of all the fun. The hotel is ideally situated in the lively neighborhood of Friedrichshain, close to the S- en U-Bahnhof.

Old factory – Berlin with kids
The hotel is located in an old factory, with no two rooms looking alike. The design shows lots of good taste and even more sense of humour. The three of us stayed in the Loft room. Our daughter Mirtha was very excited to sleep in the mezzanine.

Eat local – Berlin with kids
The restaurant serves fresh and healthy dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, not only for hotel guests but for everyone who feels like it. Everything you eat here is organic and you always get a vegetarian or vegan option as well. The kitchen sources its seasonal produce from local farmers just outside Berlin.

Belgian beer – Berlin with kids
Upon entering the hotel, you ‘re surrounded by cosiness, books and comfortable sofas to read those books in. Down the hall you find the charming bar where you can find decent coffee, homemade ice-tea or a Michelberger beer (which is, by the way, Belgian! Just sayin’). Or do try a Fountain of youth, their very own coconut water, served in supercool cans. The prefect spot to catch up in the evening after a long day of discoveries and excitement.

Garden delight – Berlin with kids
The Michelberger even has its own garden where you, weather permitting, can get a drink, grab a bite and escape the business of the streets. Also a great place for kids to unwind.

The events team makes sure every day is different from the other, with exhibitions, DJ-sets and other cool stuff happening, but never in a way that it is disturbing if you don’t feel like it. You feel very much at home here, because it’s not a hotel for hipsters but for the openminded and young of heart. A truly unique place in a unique city. Ganz toll, if you ask us.
